A pair of city-area players were named to the ESPNHS 2012 Baseball All-American first team this week.

Carl Albert’s Taylor Hawkins, The Oklahoman’s All-State and Big All-City Player of the Year, earned first-team honors at catcher.

Hawkins hit 28 home runs this season, including one in the Class 5A championship game, to help give the Titans the state title.

Hawkins was a 12th-round pick of Tampa Bay in this month’s draft. He’s also an OU signee.

Joining Hawkins on the first team is Edmond Santa Fe right-handed pitcher Ty Hensley. Hensley was dominant on the mound, going 10-0 with a 1.52 ERA and 111 strikeouts in 55 innings. He also hit .447 with 10 home runs and 41 RBIs.

Hensley was a first-round pick of the New York Yankees and has signed with Ole Miss.

Leedey sophomore Drew Ward was named to the ESPNHS third team after hitting .541. Widely considered the nation’s top player in the 2014 class, Ward missed some time this season due to injury.
