Coming off a Class A state championship, Wayne is poised for another run at a title.

With eight starters back on each side of the ball, the Bulldogs return mostly intact.

Senior quarterback Sam Martin said that experience has led to crisper early workouts.

“We’re farther along than we have been,” Martin said. “It definitely helps having a bunch of guys back who know what they’re doing.”

Although the Bulldogs did lose prolific running back Josh Way to graduation, they return Martin, who ran for about 1,600 yards and Louden Johnson will take over as Wayne’s primary running back.

“Me and Louden, we’ve got to get used to each other a bit like me and Josh did,” Martin said. “But we’ll get there. I’ve added a little bit of speed and arm strength and Louden has gotten better.”
