Bishop McGuinness' Brandon Nguyen suffers head injury
Bishop McGuinness senior linebacker Brandon Nguyen, the team’s top returning tackler and a leader on the Irish defense, suffered what appeared to be a concussion during the team’s scrimmage at home against Lawton MacArthur on Thursday.
Nguyen went helmet-to-helmet with MacArthur running back Darius Graham on the goal line, stopping him for a three-yard loss, but came off the field after the play and didn’t return.
“He made a great play down there on the goal line to save the touchdown, but got his bell rung a little bit,” Irish coach Justin Jones said.
“He’ll be out a couple weeks and we’ll reevaluate and try to get him back before the first game.”
Jones said Nguyen was showing signs of a concussion.
“Seeing someone like Brandon go down is the worst thing to see,” senior cornerback Duncan Branum. “Even though he’s concussed — he’s out right now — he’s still begging to stay on the field. I’ve played around him all four years, and he’s always that guy that never wants to come out.”
Nguyen had 117 tackles and an interception in 2010.
