Dual State Wrestling: Class 3A-4A first round
All first round duals started at the 126-pound weight class. The semifinals will begin at 2 p.m.
CLASS 4A
TUTTLE 63, BRISTOW 13
Bristow held a 13-12 lead after Chris Smith picked up a pin in the 152-pound match. Then the Purple Pirates hit the strength of the Tuttle lineup as the Tigers reeled off nine straight wins, including seven by pin. Tuttle has won the last three dual state championships and will move on to face Blackwell in a rematch of the 2012 finals.
BLACKWELL 48, LOCUST GROVE 26
Locust Grove jumped out to a 12-0 lead, but Blackwell won nine of the next 12 matches to cruise to an easy win. Blackwell moves on to the semifinals where they will look to avenge a loss 31-16 loss to Tuttle in 2012 dual state finals.
VINITA 64, WEATHERFORD 10
Vinita rolled out to a 31-0 after winning the first six matches with pins at 132, 138, 145, and 160. Weatherford’s Matt Hoffman finally got the Eagles on the board at 170 with 11-0 major decision victory. Vinita clinched the blow out win in the 220-pound match with a pin from Kaleb Phillips.
WAGONER 34, PIEDMONT 23
Wagoner used key victories in several close matches to win the first round’s most competitive dual. Piedmont, who advanced to dual state by defeating traditional power Cushing in districts, couldn’t recover from a 25-11 deficit after Wagoner’s Derek Marshall picked up a pin at 220-pounds. The Bulldogs put the dual away with a pin from Alex Lockwood in the 106-pound match. Wagoner advances to take on Vinita in the semifinals.
