CLASS 6A
1. Lawton (1)#5-0
2. Edmond North (2)#5-0
3. Tulsa Union (6)#3-2
4. Broken Arrow (3)#3-2
5. Jenks (4)#3-2
6. Owasso (5)#2-2
7. Edmond Santa Fe (7)#4-1
8. Westmoore (8)#4-1
9. Sand Springs (10)#5-0
10. Southmoore (NR)#4-1
I’m shuffling the order of the Big Four (Tulsa Union, Jenks, Broken Arrow and Owasso) a bit after we’ve been a week removed from Owasso’s upset over Union. The Rams needed to be ahead of the Redskins last week. This week, though, the fact is Union is 2-1 against the other three while Owasso is 1-2. We’ll get a clearer picture this week with Jenks-Broken Arrow. Sand Springs moves up a spot and Southmoore moves back into the rankings. The fact is, they never should’ve left, but someone had to go to make room for Sand Springs. I’m still not convinced the Sandites are for real. Their best win is either a seven-point win over Sapulpa (a previously 3-1 team that got hammered by Jenks 63-14 Friday night) or a 14-point win over Tulsa Washington (who has picked up two of its three wins against sub-6A competition). Sand Springs goes 6-0 this week against Ponca City but then things get real when Tulsa Union comes to town Oct. 12.
CLASS 5A
1. Guthrie (1)#5-0
2. Tulsa East Central (2)#5-0
3. Deer Creek (3)#5-0
4. Bishop McGuinness (4)#5-0
5. Tulsa Kelley (5)#3-2
6. Claremore (7)#5-0
7. Coweta (6)#3-2
8. Del City (8)#3-2
9. Lawton MacArthur (9)#3-2
10. Tulsa Memorial (10)#5-0
The only loss here was Coweta falling to higher-ranked Tulsa East Central in a close game. Claremore and Coweta switch spaces. I’ve caught some grief for having Tulsa Kelley this high but the Comets beat Coweta and their two losses came to a 6A team (Bartlesville) and a McGuinness team that’s looking better and better each week.
CLASS 4A
1. Wagoner (1)#4-1
2. Clinton (2)#4-1
3. Cascia Hall (3)#5-0
4. Ada (5)#5-0
5. Douglass (6)#3-2
6. Anadarko (7)#5-0
7. Sallisaw (4)#3-2
8. Fort Gibson (8)#5-0
9. Cleveland (9)#5-0
10. Poteau (NR)#4-1
Sallisaw drops a spot after Cascia Hall delivered a 42-17 whipping to the Black Diamonds. Sallisaw is still a pretty good team but right now, Douglass and Anadarko are playing better. Fort Gibson proved a lot with Friday’s win over Broken Bow but still not sure they’re better than Sallisaw. The Tigers will get the chance to prove that late in the season when they play Cascia Hall on Oct. 18 and close the season against Sallisaw. I moved Poteau into the No. 10 spot after getting the correct score of Friday’s Poteau-Stilwell game. The Pirates move in in place of Tulsa McLain.
CLASS 3A
1. Kingfisher (1)#5-0
2. Tuttle (2)#5-0
3. Berryhill (3)#5-0
4. Seminole (4)#4-0
5. Blanchard (6)#5-0
6. Metro Christian (7)#4-1
7. Victory Christian (8)#5-0
8. Sequoyah-Tahlequah (9)#4-1
9. Verdigris (10)#4-1
10. Cushing (NR)#4-1
This one was difficult, dropping Sequoyah-Claremore from No. 5 to out after a 48-24 loss to Seminole. But there were too many teams with impressive resumes to keep them in. The spot goes to Cushing, which beat previously undefeated Bristow in a wild 64-63 game Friday. Madill, Jones, Perkins, Hilldale, Lincoln Christian and Locust Grove all got looks as well.
CLASS 2A
1. Millwood (1)#5-0
2. Vian (2)#5-0
3. Davis (3)#5-0
4. Frederick (4)#5-0
5. Hennessey (5)#3-2
6. Stroud (6)#4-1
7. OCS (8)#4-1
8. Lindsay (7)#3-2
9. Adair (9)#5-0
10. Commerce (10)#4-1
The only loss among the ranked was Lindsay’s loss to Frederick and Lindsay just drops a spot to No. 8. I thought about dropping them another spot but with Adair needing overtime to get past Nowata, Lindsay stays ahead. Lindsay’s two losses have come to Class 3A No. 5 Blanchard and 2A No. 4 Frederick.
CLASS A
1. Wynnewood (1)#4-0
2. Wayne (2)#5-0
3. Thomas (3)#5-0
4. Ringling (4)#3-1
5. Texhoma (5)#4-0
6. Cashion (6)#5-0
7. Crescent (7)#5-0
8. Kiefer (10)#5-0
9. Morrison (8)#4-1
10. Hollis (9)#5-0
They all win, so it’s easy right? Not quite. I felt Kiefer deserved to be moved up a couple spots, although they finally allowed points Friday. Morrison-Kiefer to end the season figures to be one of the biggest matchups in the class all year.
CLASS B
1. Laverne (1)#5-0
2. Wetumka (2)#5-0
3. Pond Creek-Hunter (3)#5-0
4. Dewar (4)#5-0
5. Garber (5)#5-0
6. Fox (6)#5-0
7. Davenport (7)#3-2
8. Rejoice Christian (8)#4-1
9. Covington-Douglas (9)#3-2
10. Alex (10)#4-1
Everybody wins here except for Davenport, and that loss came to No. 4 Dewar by 14 points. To me, that game: 1.) Showed Davenport’s still a pretty good team, and 2.) Illustrated the difference between No. 2 Wetumka (beat Davenport 64-22 earlier) and Dewar.
CLASS C
1. Tipton (1)#5-0
2. Cherokee (2)#5-0
3. Forgan (3)#4-0
4. Ryan (4)#5-0
5. Sharon-Mutual (5)#4-1
6. Deer Creek-Lamont (6)#4-1
7. Thackerville (8)#3-1
8. Webbers Falls (7)#4-1
9. Maud (10)#4-1
10. Balko (NR)#4-1
And now we come to the first class with an unranked team knocking off a ranked team, as Buffalo fell to Balko. It’s easy here as Maud moves up one spot while Buffalo replaces Balko. Thackerville continues to creep up the rankings, having beat Maud and Webbers Falls in consecutive weeks. (NOTE: The initial score we had for Thackerville-Webbers Falls was reversed. These rankings have been updated to reflect that correction.)
