Oklahoma Christian School coach Derek Turner not only was impressed with his club in Friday night’s 55-32 Class 2A semifinal win over Frederick, he also was impressed with the support his team received.

Saints fans gave their football team a big sendoff Friday afternoon from the Edmond school and kept showing their enthusiasm all the way to Weatherford.

“We left and they had a procession of people for us all the way out to the bus through the campus. We went though every building,” Turner said.

“When we drove out, they had people at intersections from Oklahoma City all the way out here (Weatherford). About every 10 miles or so there would be fans on overpasses on I-40 with signs, holding them up and cheering for us.

“When we got off the highway there were probably 25 or 30 people with banners. And then they all came and had a giant cookout. Half of these people were (in Weatherford) at 3:30 (Friday) afternoon.”

Saints fans are planning a similar escort for the team Saturday on the drive to Stillwater for OCS’ state championship game against Davis.

“I-35 is a little too dangerous to do it, so they are going to do it on (SH) 51,” Turner said.
