Gabrielle Union to star in BET pilot “Single Black Female”
Gabrielle Union will take the lead role in BET’s hourlong pilot “Single Black Female,” which is from Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil, the husband-and-wife duo behind the network’s hit comedy series “The Game,” according to a news release.
“Single Black Female,” written by “The Game” creator Mara Brock Akil, follows the work, social and family life of a black woman (Union) who is the host of a popular 24-hour cable news network similar to Anderson Cooper 360.
This new hour drama is the first project to come out of the production pact Akil Productions signed with BET in May.
Salim Akil will produce “Single Black Female” with his wife and will also direct.
Additionally, the Akil team is behind the upcoming Sony movie “Sparkle,” scheduled to premiere in August.
