Lindsay Lohan has officially been scheduled to star as legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime Original Movie “Liz & Dick,” based on the true story of the movie icon’s historic romance with actor Richard Burton, according to a news release.

Principal photography on the film will start in early June in Los Angeles.

For nearly a quarter of a century, Taylor and Burton were two of Hollywood’s key players, and their passionate love affair was highly publicized, from the time they met on the set of the movie “Cleopatra,” left their respective spouses, married, divorced, remarried and divorced again.

While it was a rocky romance, it was also certainly intense.

Regarding her casting announcement, Lohan is quoted as saying in the news release:

“I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor.  She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well.  I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.”

“Liz & Dick” will be produced by Larry A. Thompson Productions, Inc., with Larry A. Thompson (“Amish Grace,” “Lucy & Desi”) serving as executive producer and Christopher Monger (“Temple Grandin”) writing.
