“Motive,” a thrilling crime drama from Daniel Cerone, the executive producer of “Dexter” and “The Mentalist,” has been picked up by ABC for 13 episodes to air in summer 2013.
The drama has a unique twist centering not on who did the crime, but why the crime was committed in the first place, according to a news release.
“Motive” stars Kristin Lehman (“The Killing”) as Det. Angie Flynn, Louis Ferreira (“SGU: Stargate Universe”) as Det. Oscar Vega, Lauren Holly (“NCIS”) as Dr. Betty Rogers, Roger Cross (“24″) as Staff Sergeant Boyd Bloom, Brendan Penny as Det. Brian Lucas and Cameron Bright (“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ as Manny Flynn.
The series focuses on Detectives Flynn and Vega searching for the clues to solve murder cases, but “Motive” puts a new spin on the steadfast crime drama format by identifying the killer and victim at the beginning of each episode. The plot lines are then further explored through stylized flashbacks which piece together more of the mysterious connection between the two characters and what motivated the killer to commit murder.
“Motive” creator Cerone also serves as executive producer for the show along with Louise Clark, Rob Merilees, Erin Haskett, Rob LaBelle, Lindsay Macadam and James Thorpe.
The series, developed by CTV, is produced by Foundation Features and Lark Productions in association with Bell Media and distributed by NBCUniversal International.
