Based on the true story of one of Canada’s highest ranking Air Force officers, Col. Russell Williams, and his secret life involving crimes that included murder, sexual assault, home invasion and burglary, the Lifetime original movie “An Officer and a Murderer” premieres at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 21.

The movie is a straightforward account of these crimes, as well as the investigation into them which concluded in his arrest.

Gary Cole’s skillful portrayal of Williams and his methodical and disciplined manner sets the tone for the film, which, while overall subdued, still has its creepy moments.

Although why Williams became this stealthy serial criminal is not explained, the story is nonetheless unnerving to watch as he escalates in stages from being an intruder who steals women’s lingerie into becoming a murderer while simultaneously appearing to be a pillar of the community, and without his wife ever having a clue.
