Senator comes out as gay during same-sex marriage debate

When Nevada state Sen. Kelvin Atkinson entered a floor debate Monday over an effort to repeal the state’s same-sex marriage ban, he publicly announced he was gay, according to CNN.



The decision to do so, he said, was just as much of a surprise to him as it was to others.

“It was an impulse decision, Atkinson, 44, said during a phone interview with CNN. “I felt it was time to do it.”
