“Cloud Atlas,” starring Tom Hanks and Halle Berry,” and “Side Effects,” starring Channing Tatum, Rooney Mara and Jude Law are among the features on Cox cable’s Movies On Demand in May.

The May lineup, provided in a news release, is as follows:

May 2013 Movies On Demand on Cable – Major Studio Premieres:

Among the major studio films premiering in May on Movies On Demand (MOD) on cable is “Jack Reacher,” with Tom Cruise playing the title role in this film adapted from Lee Child¹s popular novels. Also of note is Guillermo del Toro’s “Mama” with Jessica Chastain, which reviewer Richard Roeper called a “thrill ride.” Plus, MOD features Steven Soderbergh’s provocative thriller, “Side Effects,” starring Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum and Jude Law; and “Cloud Atlas,” the visionary epic where “everything is connected.”

All of the major releases below premiere on MOD the same day as DVD release and are offered in both standard and high-definition*, as are many indies. Highlights of the May 2013 roster of indie titles on Movies On Demand include a real indie find, “Upstream Color,” which garnered 81% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviewers calling it “sensuous” and “transcendent.”  ”Lore,” which had a limited run in U.S. theatres but gets a bigger outing via On Demand, received a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.  It is the story of 3 children of Nazis left in a devastated country at the end of WWII, just after the Allies arrest their father.

Indie fans may also want to check out “Stand Up Guys” with Al Pacino, Christopher Walken and Alan Arkin.  Mickey Rourke gets caught up in an Indonesian terrorism ordeal in “Java Heat.”  MOD features several titles premiering the same day as U.S. theaters, notably “Pieta,” the intense South Korean film which won numerous international awards; and “Black Rock,” the thriller about a friends’ vacation gone horribly wrong, written by Mark Duplass and starring Kate Bosworth, Lake Bell and Duplass’ wife Katie Aselton.
