Police have identified two women who were stabbed Thursday outside a south Oklahoma City motel.

Laura Stenner, 40, was declared dead at the scene, and Danell Rivers, 34, was taken to OU Medical Center. She was listed in good condition, a hospital spokeswoman said Friday.

The attack happened about 5:50 a.m. Thursday at the Quality Inn Southwest, 7800 C.A. Henderson Blvd., police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said.

Police arrested Jeffrey S. Tate, 20, on complaints of murder and assault with a deadly weapon after detaining him near the scene with blood on his hands. He is being held without bail at the Oklahoma County jail.

The two women were staying at the motel when they found someone trying to steal their car and were attacked, Knight said.

According to court and prison records, both Stenner and Rivers have multiple felony convictions and recently were released from prison.

Stenner was released in March after serving time following drug convictions in Canadian and Oklahoma counties. She has numerous drug convictions since 2003.

Rivers has convictions including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, car theft, and bringing drugs or alcohol into a jail. She was released from prison April 16 after a forgery conviction. has disabled the comments for this article.
