CHOCTAW — A woman arrested after a Choctaw man was gunned down in his trailer home Monday told police she shot him as he got out of the shower because he didn't want her to leave the home, according to a court document.
Angela Ann Durent, 22, was arrested by Oklahoma County sheriff's deputies after a witness said Durent confessed to him that she killed James Michael Vaughn, 46. She is being held at the Oklahoma County jail on complaints of murder and larceny of an automobile.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by deputies in Oklahoma County District Court, Durent told investigators she had been staying at Vaughn's trailer for a week. They began fighting April 20 because Vaughn wouldn't let her leave the home, she said.
Durent told deputies she waited until Vaughn was taking a shower and took his silver .38-caliber revolver from the closet. When he came out of the bathroom into the hall, she shot him three times in the upper body.
She said Vaughn then ran out of the house and collapsed near his car.
Durent took the car and drove to a friend's house about 5 a.m.
The friend, who later called police, said Durent drove him around for a while looking for a house where she said she was staying. She couldn't find the house, and the friend asked to be dropped off after she told him she had killed Vaughn.
Deputies recovered Vaughn's car from Durent's home in Midwest City. They found the revolver after she told them she left it at an address in McLoud.
