NORMAN —  After just two innings, the score looked as though No. 1 Oklahoma was up on Iowa State 3-0. That's because the scoreboard at Marita Hynes Field doesn't register double digits.

The Sooners scored 11 runs in the first inning and 12 in the second, while starting pitcher Keilani Ricketts struck out four in the same amount of time.

In front of a sold-out crowd, Oklahoma won 24-1, setting a school record for runs in a game. Both Shelby Pendley and Kelley Reeves hit grand slams.

“I know Iowa State, and they're well coached and they're better than what they showed,” Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso said. “Our crowd, when you walked in, you felt them. ... I think it was a little intimidating.”

The scoring started after Lauren Chamberlain and Georgia Casey both walked. Chamberlain reached third after Shelby Pendley flew out to center. Casey didn't advance. With Ricketts at the plate, Gasso gave Casey the sign to steal second, which distracted Iowa State as Chamberlain stole home.

The Cyclones faced 14 batters in the first inning and 17 in the second before settling down in the third, fourth and fifth innings, allowing only one more run, which came in the fourth.

“I know that they can score,” Gasso said of the Cyclones. “This is not indicative of who they are, and what we have to understand is we have to continue to respect what they're about.”`
