NFL Draft: Former OU quarterback Landry Jones selected by the Steelers

Landry Jones’ wait is over. His free fall is complete.

Once thought of as a first round pick, before his stock plummeted during the past year, Jones was selected in the fourth round, 115th overall, by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday afternoon.

He was the seventh quarterback drafted.

The four-year record-breaking OU starter is expected to slide into a backup role with the Steelers, who already have two-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger firmly planted as the team’s franchise quarterback.

But Roethlisberger can be a bit reckless in the pocket, thanks to a shaky offensive line, and has had some injury problems in the past, missing three games last season.

So a backup in Pittsburgh can become a sudden starter at any time.

“He’s a very seasoned, experienced guy,” Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin said of Jones. “Good, young, talented, sharp guy to put in that room.”

QBs drafted ahead of Landry Jones
-Florida State’s EJ Manuel
-WVU’s Geno Smith
-NC State’s Mike Glennon
-Syracuse’s Ryan Nassib
-USC’s Matt Barkley
-Arkansas’ Tyler Wilson
