Heads turned as Josh Cote hauled a 5-foot, wire bunny rabbit down the main strip of the Festival of the Arts.

Even in a sea of colorful and artistic folks enjoying the sights and sounds of the second to last day of the festival, Cote and his art both stand out.

With his long, blond dreadlocks and bushy white beard, Cote specializes in the construction of wire sculptures in the forms of ravens, porcupines, monkeys and many other creatures of the wild.

“Sometimes people come up and are a little shocked or scared by my sculptures,” he said. “But the week has been great and I've actually been able to sell quite a few pieces.”

Cote, 42, lives in Louisiana, Mo., in an old city water treatment plant. He said the building itself is more like a sculpture, which inspires him when he's making his creations.

“I really just got curious about working with copper wire,” he said. “It turned out that I was pretty good at making things come alive with it.”

Even with the unpredictable weather in Oklahoma City this week, Cote said he's having a good time.

“We went from freezing cold weather to hot to rain and hail, but we all held up pretty well,” he said. “I grew up going to festivals with my dad. You get some good weeks and some bad ones.”
