Oklahoma City RedHawks: Jonathan Villar leads OKC past New Orleans

Villar slammed his first home run of the season and had two hits in the RedHawks' 5-3 win over New Orleans in front of 7,806 fans Sunday afternoon at The Brick.

Jonathan Villar slammed his first home run of the season and had two hits in the RedHawks' 5-3 win over New Orleans in front of 7,806 fans Sunday afternoon at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

A candidate to be the Astros shortstop of the future, Villar got off to a 2-for-34 start in his Triple-A debut but has hit .400 the last 13 games to raise his average to .270.

Brett Oberholtzer picked up his first win of the season, allowing two runs on six hits in five innings. Kevin Chapman pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth with an inning-ending double play. Jose Valdez pitched a scoreless ninth for his sixth save.

SHORT HOPS ...

Manager Tony DeFrancesco returned to the team on Sunday. DeFrancesco's father died last week. The funeral was Saturday. ... Paul Krauss is batting .405 with 18 RBIs at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Krauss had hit safely in the previous 11 home games. He was 0-for-3 on Sunday but had a sacrifice fly. ... Since joining the team on April 18, Andy Simunic has hit safely in six of seven games, batting .440. Simunic, who had two hits in Sunday's win, was 1-for-14 the past two seasons in two brief stints with the RedHawks.
