As the spring semester draws to a close, colleges and universities across the Oklahoma City area are gearing up for commencement ceremonies to be held in the coming weeks.
Oklahoma City University will hold a baccalaureate service at 9 a.m. May 11 in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel. Graduation ceremonies will follow, with undergraduate commencement beginning at 11 a.m. and graduate commencement at 3 p.m. at the Henry J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center. Ed Kelley, former editor of The Oklahoman and the Washington Times, will deliver the commencement address.
The University of Oklahoma will hold its commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. May 10 at Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman. The commencement speaker will be Fareed Zakaria, a CNN commentator and editor-at-large for Time magazine. Graduates will be recognized at convocation ceremonies to be held the following day at several locations on the Norman campus. Colleges in the OU Health Sciences Center will hold convocations at several locations in Norman and Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma State University will hold three commencement ceremonies for undergraduate students Saturday at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater. A ceremony for students in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the Spears School of Business will begin at 9:30 a.m. A second ceremony for students in the College of Human Science and the College of Arts and Sciences will begin at 1 p.m., and a third ceremony for students in the College of Education and the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology begins at 4:30 p.m.
Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas Stafford, a former astronaut, will speak at the 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. ceremonies. Edmond attorney Andy Lester, chairman of the board of regents for Oklahoma State University and the A&M Colleges, will speak at the 4:30 p.m. ceremony.
OSU's Graduate College commencement will be at 7 p.m. Friday in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett will speak at Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City's commencement ceremony. OSU-Oklahoma City will hold its ceremony at 7 p.m. May 13 at State Fair Park.
The University of Central Oklahoma will hold four commencement ceremonies May 10-11 at Hamilton Fieldhouse in Edmond. Gov. Mary Fallin will speak at a ceremony for the College of Education and Professional Studies at 3 p.m. May 10. UCO President Don Betz will speak at a hooding ceremony for students in the Jackson College of Graduate Studies at 7 p.m. May 10.
A ceremony will be at 10 a.m. May 11 for students from the College of Business and College of Fine Arts and Design. A second ceremony for students from the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Math and Science will be at 2 p.m. May 11. Betz will speak at both ceremonies May 11.
Oklahoma higher education Chancellor Glen Johnson will speak at a commencement ceremony for Oklahoma City Community College at 7:30 p.m. May 17. OCCC's ceremony will be at Cox Convention Center.
Rose State College will hold a commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. May 10 at First Southern Baptist Church, 6400 S Sooner Road. The ceremony will feature remarks from college President Terry Britton.
Mid-America Christian University will hold its commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday at Crossings Community Church, 14600 N Portland Ave. The Rev. Marty Grubbs, pastor of Crossings Community Church, will be the commencement speaker.
Southern Nazarene University will hold a commencement ceremony for undergraduate students at 10 a.m. May 11 at the Sawyer Center. A ceremony for professional and graduate students will be at 2 p.m. in the Sawyer Center. The commencement speaker will be Oklahoma City attorney Myrna Latham.
