Jenni Carlson 9:25 a.m. Jenni will be logging in at 11 a.m., but you can begin sending in your questions now.
Jenni Carlson 10:02 a.m. Lots to talk about this morning. Thunder-Rockets. Other NBA series. Jason Collins. Tim Tebow. I'm up for whatever. Send your questions in now!
Jenni Carlson 10:52 a.m. Less than 10 minutes before we get this chat started, but there's still plenty of time to submit questions.
Jenni Carlson 11:00 a.m. All right, sports fans. Let's get this chat started.
Jay 11:01 a.m. Fill in the blanks: I most want the Thunder to play ________ (team) in the playoffs because I would like to have the chance to interview _________ (player, coach, etc.). Notwithstanding the fact that the Thunder might not get to where we had hoped with Westbrook out.
Jenni Carlson 11:01 a.m. Interesting question, Jay. ....
Jenni Carlson 11:02 a.m. I'd probably go with 1. the Heat because of 2. Shane Battier. That dude is a quote machine. Thoughtful. Insightful. Funny. He makes a reporter's job easy. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:03 a.m. Now, do I think the Thunder is going to get to play the Heat in these playoffs? It seems doubtful right now. I just don't have a good feeling about how OKC will fare against the Clippers or the Grizzlies. I think the Thunder could beat either, but it's going to take an exceptional effort without Westbrook. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:03 a.m. If it's the Clippers, it will be particularly tough. How will the Thunder handle Chris Paul? Seems like a tall order.
Guest 11:03 a.m. With all the writers comeing and going, do you feel more incompetent as a writer??
Jenni Carlson 11:03 a.m. I'm not sure what you mean, Guest. Writers coming and going? Where? ...
Jenni Carlson 11:04 a.m. We haven't lost any writers for several months on our staff. Sorry I can't offer anything on this because I'm really not sure what you're referring to.
Guest 11:05 a.m. What is the point of breaking down a comment made by an ESPN talking head? In reference to Barry's article, butt hurt much??
Jenni Carlson 11:05 a.m. I can't speak for Berry, first of all. You can email him and ask him specifically about his blog on Trent Dilfer. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:06 a.m. But I will say this -- Dilfer seemed off base on several of his comments. The offense was the reason OU was able to win the games that it won at the end of the year. The defense wasn't winning those games. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:07 a.m. As to why we might respond to something a national analyst might say, it's because people are talking about it. OU fans were talking about that. That means it's news. And that means we're likely to offer a take.
harry man 11:07 a.m. 3-1 the series...what will happen wednesday night...No one will tell...but mr. mayberry yesterday's chat made fun of harry man monday game prediction. so please remind mr. mayberry I got it RIGHT...
Jenni Carlson 11:07 a.m. Always good to have Harry Man on the chat. ;) ....
Jenni Carlson 11:08 a.m. What will happen Wednesday? I think the arena will be as rowdy as ever. Fans will be fired up and ready to try to help this team win the series. Should be a great atmosphere. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:08 a.m. As for Darnell, Harry Man, I'm going to let you remind him of your game prediction. His email is dmayberry@opubco.com. ;)
Thomas 11:09 a.m. Jenni, I have a new line-up for Thunder Game5, Ibaka@5, KD@4, Lamb@3,Km@2, Jackson@1, Your Thoughts, Thanks
Jenni Carlson 11:09 a.m. Considering Jeremy Lamb hasn't gotten off the bench so far, I have a hard time believing it'd be a good idea to insert him into the starting lineup of a game as big as this. Doesn't exactly let him ease into playoff pressure. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:10 a.m. I also don't like the idea of no Thabo Sefolosha on the floor. The more Thabo, the better in my mind. Especially after last night's defensive meltdown in the third quarter. The Thunder needs more defensive minded players on the floor, not less. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:11 a.m. But I think no Perk in the starting lineup isn't the worst idea in the world. The starting lineup as it is right now hasn't gotten off to good starts since the Rockets decided to go small. Responding to that might be in the Thunder's best interest, though I don't see Mr. Consistency, Scott Brooks, changing the lineup any time soon.
Jay 11:12 a.m. Going with your Tebow reference in your opening line: will anyone take a chance on Tebow as a QB? After the J-E-T-S debacle I almost think he's done.
Jenni Carlson 11:12 a.m. When you look around the league and see some of the QBs drawing paychecks -- I mean, there are some not-very-good players who are backups -- you have to think there's a place for Tebow. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:13 a.m. I know the Jets got no takers on trade offers, but maybe no team wanted to give them as much as they wanted. For a cheap contract, maybe someone will take a chance on him. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:13 a.m. After all, it wasn't all that long ago that Tebow was winning games in Denver. That makes me think there's some team out there that will take a chance on him.
Fred 11:13 a.m. Do you think the Thunder will beat the Clippers or Grizzlies next round?
Jenni Carlson 11:14 a.m. Yes to the Grizzlies, no to the Clippers. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:15 a.m. Both of those teams are really good, but they are good for different reasons. The Clippers athleticism is top notch, and without Westbrook, I suspect they would exploit that against the Thunder. The Clippers have become a much tougher matchup for the Thunder because there isn't an obvious guy to guard Chris Paul. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:16 a.m. The Grizzlies are different. They want to grind you down. They can't score a bunch of points, so I think the Thunder could win that series. Not that it would be easy, but I see a way for them to advance through the Grizzlies that doesn't look to be there through the Clippers.
Charlie 11:16 a.m. Rank your top five players in the NBA
Jenni Carlson 11:16 a.m. I've not really thought about much beyond the top two, frankly, Charlie. LeBron is at the top, KD is next, and after that, I'd have to think about it. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:17 a.m. There are definitely players who I like to watch, but I don't think they're among the top five players in the league. Like Paul Pierce. I enjoy watching him play but don't consider him a top-five player any more. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:17 a.m. That's not really answering your question, but like I said, beyond the top two, I don't really have a list of best players.
Jay 11:18 a.m. We were spoiled last year with the Thunder making the NBA finals...the "off season" for sports around here was only about a month long (before college camp started). I'm afraid it's going to be a longer off season this year unless we get some guys stepping up (D Fish, K Mart)
Jenni Carlson 11:18 a.m. The offseason definitely could look much different. We were NBA playoff crazy well into June. It was great fun, too. ....
Jenni Carlson 11:19 a.m. As for guys stepping up, I agree. Fisher seems to be stepping up. He was great last night, and I've been critical of him in the past. Without him last night, no way the Thunder was in that game at the end. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:20 a.m. But Kevin Martin can do more. Much more. And Serge Ibaka went missing last night. I felt like he was a non-factor on the offense, and without Westbrook, that just can't happen. He has to be a big-time contributor every night.
harry man 11:20 a.m. just real funny when thunder up goes down or sooner football goes to the exit fast..how fans react...but great atmosphere or not...players or humans and SO WILL THE ROCKETS win. game 7 will tell ALL
Jenni Carlson 11:20 a.m. Gotta get to a Game 7 first, Harry Man. I don't think that's gonna happen.
Guest 11:20 a.m. % chance Heat win the Finals? Who is biggest challenger w/ Westbrook done?
Jenni Carlson 11:21 a.m. I thought the Heat was the obvious choice to win the Finals BEFORE the Westbrook injury. Now, it seems like Miami is even more of the clear-cut favorite. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:22 a.m. The Knicks could prove to be an interesting contender in the East. Think that could be a great series. As for the West, the Clippers might be the worst matchup for the Heat. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:23 a.m. The Clippers have those athletic bigs, and the Heat doesn't have an obvious way to handle both Griffin AND Jordan. Plus, Chris Paul could cause them headaches. Clips-Heat would be an interesting Finals matchup.
Floyd 11:23 a.m. I know it is a big "If". But, what do you think of the Spurs chances coming out of the west now? I even think they could give Miami all they want if they were to make it that far. "If" the Spurs can get there.
Jenni Carlson 11:24 a.m. The Spurs are going to have their hands full in this next round. It's either going to be the Warriors or the Nuggets, and either one of those teams is going to try to run the Spurs into the ground. I suspect that series will be a long one. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:24 a.m. If that happens -- say, the Spurs have to play seven games in the second round -- I think they'll be hard pressed to win a Western Conference Finals series. I just don't know if they're young enough to handle that. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:25 a.m. But if the Spurs could somehow get through the West, it would definitely be an interesting matchup with the Heat. The Heat has way more athleticism, but the Spurs have so much maturity and great coaching. The chess match would be something to watch.
Jenni Carlson 11:26 a.m. I've still got time for a few more questions! Send 'em my way.
Jenni Carlson 11:28 a.m. What did you guys think of Charles Barkley's comments last night at halftime about the Thunder? In case you missed it: “I hate the way they are playing right now. Kevin Durant is not a point forward. He's their best player, arguably the second-best player in the world. They should run their offense. He jacked it up over 30 times last game. Just play. He's going to get 25 shots a game. Right now they are kind of walking the ball up and down the court. That's not his natural position.”
Jenni Carlson 11:29 a.m. I don't have a problem with Durant handling the ball more. I figured that would happen after Westbrook was injured. But I do agree that the offensive flow has changed for the worst. There's very little movement on the offensive end at times. That has to change.
Thomas 11:29 a.m. Jenni, L Jones drafted in Pittsbugh, W.Hand drafted in SanAntonio,That interesting couple, Your thoughts, Thanks
Jenni Carlson 11:30 a.m. Landry made a comment that I saw over the weekend that made it sound like Whitney wasn't going to be able to play the WNBA season this year, but maybe next year. I guess that means that they'll both be in Pittsburgh for the time being.
Floyd 11:30 a.m. Do you feel the play that injured Westbrook was dirty or just "basketball". Never quit until there is a whistle? Just bad luck for the Thunder?
Jenni Carlson 11:31 a.m. I didn't think it was dirty. You see it from time to time. Westbrook himself has done it. Durant did it against Jeremy Lin in Game 3. It's part of the game. ...
Jenni Carlson 11:32 a.m. It was just unfortunate that the two players knees hit like they did. Had Beverley come at Westbrook from the front instead of the side, there's a chance nothing bad happens. But the angle he came at created the contact. To me, it was an unfortunate outcome but not a dirty play.
Jenni Carlson 11:32 a.m. All right, folks, I'm out of time. Thanks for the great questions today. Be sure to join John Rohde for tomorrow's Power Lunch, and join us for our live game chat during Game 5 on Wednesday night.
