Hinton's Maci Arrington is in contention yet again at the Class 2A state golf tournament. The senior, and three time state runner-up, posted an opening-round 75 at Trosper Park on Wednesday. She sits just one stroke behind leader Katie-Lee Wilson of Rejoice Christian.

“I had a couple mistakes, but overall I felt good about how I played today,” Arrington said. “It's been really frustrating to come up short the last few years. That's definitely been my drive this year.”

Wilson is the defending 2A champion after finishing two strokes ahead of Arrington last season.

Kailey Campbell of Oktaha is in third after shooting a 76.

HINTON LEADS CLOSE TEAM RACE

The team race is a close one after one round, with defending champion Hinton (361) holding a one-stroke lead over Oktaha (362).

Like the individual competition, the team leaderboard also has a couple familiar names at top. Last year, Oktaha held a 23-stroke lead after one round only to see Hinton storm back in Round 2 and claim the state title by three strokes.

“We are excited to come out tomorrow ready to play,” Hinton coach Greg George said. “The weather isn't supposed to be great for us, but we're used to that. We've been dealing with it all season.”

BUSY WEEK FOR TURNER'S MCGILL

Turner's Andi McGill played in her second state tournament in as many days on Wednesday. McGill played for the Turner softball team one day earlier in the Class 2A state slowpitch softball tournament.
