Ann Pepper is a Class 6A regional champion with seven first-place finishes in tournaments this season. Her record entering the state tennis championships on Friday is 31-5.

She was a No. 1 doubles state champion last season and was a state champ in No. 2 singles as freshman.

Q: Do you feel more pressure playing in the state tournament than others?

A: “Yeah. Anyone really would.”

You were a No. 1 doubles state champion last season. Do you miss playing doubles or do you prefer playing singles?

“I really do like doubles. I like singles, too, but I like doubles because you have a partner. You have someone talk to you and get you pumped up. In singles, I like how I control everything.”

What is the strongest part of your game?

“My attitude. I have an even attitude. I really don t get so frustrated that I blow up. I am just relaxed.”

How difficult is the training for tennis?

“It can be pretty brutal. Sometime you have to run a lot. It drains you.”

How long have you been playing tennis?

“Since I was like 10.”

What is the best and worst thing about playing tennis?

“Sometimes you have to give up a lot of social stuff on the weekends when there are tournaments. That's kind of a bummer.”

Are you going to play tennis in college?

“I am going to OU as a preferred walk-on.”

What professional tennis player do you admire the most and why?

“I really like Roger Federer. He is such an even player. He is really modest. I really like that.”
