LUTHER — A woman is dead, her husband riddled with bullets and her son in handcuffs after a shoot-out near Luther on Thursday afternoon.
About 3 p.m., Oklahoma County deputies responded to a call of shots fired at 21351 NE 122. They found Matthew Strickland, 24, wearing a bulletproof vest in a car and detained him, sheriff's spokesman Mark Myers said.
Inside the trailer home at the address, they found Strickland's mother, 46-year-old Jill Sides, dead with a gunshot wound to her head and his 60-year-old stepfather — her husband — shot multiple times, Myers said. Ottie Sides is expected to survive his wounds, he said.
Investigators said Strickland went to visit his mother, an altercation ensued and all three fired rounds during the incident. Strickland was reportedly hit by bullets, but was not seriously hurt because he was wearing the vest, Myers said.
Strickland is accused of shooting his mother and stepfather and was booked into the Oklahoma County jail complaints of murder and shooting with intent to kill, Myers said.
