I've been running marathons since 1981 and triathlons and other multisport endurance events since 1986. I've raced in more than 20 countries, from Tibet to Patagonia to Lapland. However, I've never experienced anything like the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon — anywhere in the world. People cheering on the course thanked me for running! From the 168-second tribute to those lost, to the spirit along the course, the heart, soul and character of Oklahoma City was evident and felt everywhere.
I'm involved in bringing the HITS Running Festival to Oklahoma City in October. This will be a great event and festival, but nothing will come close to replicating the integrity and soul of The Memorial. My thanks to the race organization, the city and the people of Oklahoma City for giving me the experience of a lifetime.
