The Wellington Full Service Retirement Community hosted the 10th annual Ms. Wellington Pageant on April 16.
Eight contestants competed for the title of Ms. Wellington: Gloris Baker, fourth runner-up, Julia Cochran, second runner-up, Betty Collins, resident's choice, Marilyn Fibus, online favorite, Mary Ida Needham, first runner-up, Ivy Newsom, fifth runner-up, Marilyn Pope, Ms. Wellington 2013 and Mary Townsend, third runner-up.
The contestants were escorted by Junior ROTC Cadets from Northwest Classen High School. Previous pageant winners honored were Ms. Wellington 2010 Doris Sutton, and Ms. Wellington 2012 Helen O'Neal. The Wellington gave a special presentation to Vanity and Kendrick Perkins for their support of the Oklahoma City community. Following the presentation, Kendrick Perkins invited all the contestants and past Ms. Wellingtons to be his special guest at the first Thunder playoff game on April 21.
Marilyn Pope was born Feb. 4, 1943, in Seminole and attended Seminole High School. She attended the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City University and Central State University. She married Ozell Pope in 1961 in Gainesville, Texas. They have three children and eight grandchildren.
Pope worked as a manager at Western Electric and Southwestern Bell. Her hobbies are singing, bowling and watching movies. She is a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. She moved to The Wellington on March 25.
