Oklahoma scene: Ryan Hybl, Kevin Tway among qualifiers

Oklahoma golf coach Ryan Hybl and former Oklahoma State standout Kevin Tway were among the five golfers who passed through the local qualifying for the U.S. Open Championship on Monday at Oak Tree National in Edmond.

Oklahoma golf coach Ryan Hybl and former Oklahoma State standout Kevin Tway were among the five golfers who passed through the local qualifying for the U.S. Open Championship on Monday at Oak Tree National in Edmond.

OU senior Abraham Ancer had Monday's low round with a 66. Tway was next with a 68, and former Central Oklahoma standout Joshua Creel qualified with a 69.

Hybl also shot 69, and current OSU player Talor Gooch earned the final spot with a 71.

The players now advance to sectional qualifying June 3 at Lakewood Country Club in Dallas, with a shot at earning a spot in the final 156-player field. The U.S. Open Championship will be held June 13-16 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa.

FOUR GYMNASTS HONORED BY HALL OF FAME

Four international gymnasts are scheduled to be honored by the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City.

The hall announced that Albert Azaryan of Armenia; Lyubov Burda of Russia; Gina Gogean of Romania; and Yuri Korolev of Russia will be honored during the 17th annual International Gymnastics Hall of Fame ceremony May 18 in Oklahoma City.
