Nick Heinen and Hayden Wood are the Edmond North golfers who get most of the outside attention. And rightfully so, with Wood shooting a blistering 6-under 66 in the second round of the Class 6A tournament on Monday and Heinen narrowly missing out on medalist honors after falling to defending champ Max McGreevy of Edmond Santa Fe on the second playoff hole.

But coach Jeff Doherty gave a special plug to Eli Armstrong after the school won its ninth consecutive team title Tuesday, calling the senior the team's most consistent player in 2013.

“He had a fabulous year,” Doherty said. “And that's really hard for a kid that makes it as a freshman and then gets beat out his sophomore and junior years and then stays with it. I love that story. That's a great story to tell people.

“It doesn't always happen that way. It can't happen if you don't keep grinding and work hard at it. And he did. And it paid off for him.”
