A new group formed to combat animal cruelty in Oklahoma has organized a rally from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday on the south plaza of the state Capitol.

“We are just tired of what's happening. We wanted to raise awareness of animal cruelty and what's happening in the state,” organizer Jenny Patten said.

Patten said she and Jimmie Kennard are heading Citizens Against Animal Cruelty, which has about a dozen members so far.

The group is seeking stricter statutes and stiffer penalties regarding animal cruelty.

Patten said they received permission to have animals on the Capitol property for the rally. She encourages everyone who is interested in the cause to attend.

“Bring a sign, bring a chair, bring a friend.”
