The curious case of the eclectic Sauced pizzeria takes a spin in a new direction Friday when it reopens under new ownership with an extended monicker.

Paseo Grill owners Joe Jungmann and Lesley Rawlinson take over the pizzeria at 2912 Paseo Drive, formerly called Sauced and now known as Sauced on Paseo. The original Sauced was an initial success, known for handmade pies, a solid beer selection, coffees, live music and the best patio spot since Laredo’s was Chesapulted from NW 63rd Street. But seating was limited and as time wore on service — in my experience — went from uneven to apathetic. That said, the space will always hold a special place in my heart as it was the place I shared a pie with my friends preceding my first date-like meetup at a local lounge with the current Mrs. Cathey. And the original Sauced brought a much needed perspective and energy to the Paseo Arts District.

Now the space is in good hands. Jungmann and Rawlinson plus Elise Fischbein have cut an impressive rug in the last year, adding The Whole Enchilada Cafe and in the midst of righting the ship at Hefner Grill.

Jungmann promises Sauced on Paseo to continue cultivating the bohmian spirit begun in 2007 while improving the seating shortage and streamlining the menu, which will include sandwiches, salads and appetizers
