Beer for My Reindeer

At a recent beer dinner hosted by the Oklahoma City Museum of Art Cafe, I was introduced to Unibroue beer. Chef Henry Boudreaux’s five-course dinner was a smash from top to bottom, each pairing from the Unibroue line underscoring the progression of flavor and technique.

It so happened that about that time, we were looking for some kind of spirit, wine or beverage to fill this space for Mood. And suddenly it arrived: Unibroue’s Quelque Chose.

Chad Cronic of Oklahoma Beer Imports was the beverage host that evening, and he let us know that Quelque Chose means “something else.”

That something else is the perfect Christmas beverage for giving or receiving. Quelque Chose is lightly carbonated and sparkles with holiday flavors such as cherry, cinnamon, cloves and honey. Cronic says the beverage can be served chilled, room temperature or even warmed like wassail.

Quelque Chose is a fusion of cherry lambic ale with a brown ale brewed at home base in Chambly, Quebec, Canada. Sour cherries are added to a brew created in the artisan Belgian form to create a drink that’s sweet but finishes a little tart. If you’re interested in buying this unique beverage, Cronic recommends consulting your favorite liquor store.

Thanks to its artful bottling, it’s just right for a stocking stuffer. Or maybe you’d like to leave it out for Santa to go with his cookies. Of course, there’s no telling what you’ll get in your stocking if you do.
