REDHAWKS 3, BEES 2

The RedHawks ended a nine-game losing streak to Salt Lake City by scoring a run with two outs in the ninth inning for a 3-2 win in front of 10,280 fans Tuesday afternoon at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Austin Wates' game-winning hit officially was a single since the RedHawks needed only one run to break a 2-2 tie. Brett Wallace singled to open the ninth. Carlos Perez singled with two outs. Che-Hsuan Lin was hit by a pitch, then Wates slammed a pitch into the right-center gap to win it.

RedHawks closer Jose Valdez, who came on in the eighth, picked up the win to improve to 3-0 to complement 11 saves.

WOJCIECHOWSKI PITCHES WELL

Right-hander Asher Wojciechowski, one of the Houston Astros' top pitching prospects, allowed three hits and one run in 5 2/3 innings.

“So far he's been outstanding,” said RedHawks manager Tony DeFrancesco. “He's a big horse. We're trying to get him to pitch into the sixth or seventh inning. But he's done a good job.”

Obtained in a trade with Toronto last July, Wojciechowski is 1-0 with a 1.15 ERA in three starts with Oklahoma City.

A first-round pick in 2010 out of The Citadel, the 41st overall selection, Wojciechowski was 2-1 with a 2.08 ERA with Double-A Corpus Christi before he was promoted to OKC.
