This week, the most intriguing DVD to appear on release lists is:

“The Flash: The Complete Series”

With a strong big-screen showing by The Green Hornet and new Spider-Man and Batman movies on the horizon, now’s a good time to revisit one of the best TV incarnations of a comic book superhero in “Flash: The Complete Series,” due out on DVD Tuesday.

The highly polished and atmospheric 1990 TV series is a favorite among comics fans for its faithfulness to the Scarlet Speedster’s pulp origins. It starred John Wesley Shipp as police scientist Barry Allen who was struck by lightning during an experiment. The chemicals splashed on him during the mishap instilled in him the ability to move at incredible speeds.

With the aid of a dishy research scientist (Amanda Pays of “Max Headroom”), the newly minted Flash employs his powers to battle a legion of villains (Trickster, Captain Cold, Mirror Master and more) and clean up the streets of Central City.
