This week, the oddest DVD to appear on release lists is:

“SK8 Life”

The arcane skateboarding underground of Vancouver, Canada, gets a radical, cinema verite treatment in the 2006 Sundance Film Festival favorite “SK8 Life,” due out on DVD Tuesday.

A Canadian spin on the culture-defining fictional feature, “Lords of Dogtown” (and its documentary predecessor “Dogtown and Z-Boys”), this hybrid work of fiction, documentary and digital animation from writer-director Wyeth Clarkson focuses on eight skaters in East Vancouver’s fringe skateboard scene as they set out to shoot a homemade skating movie and save a storied hangout, the Crashpad, from demolition.

The ragtag band of moody and very immature teens is lead by Kris Foley, an aging skater who is losing his edge but is still capable of some gnarly feats.
