Insomniacs and late-night cable archaeologists know the names Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim from their amateurishly in-your-face antics on “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!” on the Cartoon Network’s quirky “Adult Swim” block of programming.

A hit-or-miss hodgepodge of skit comedy – parodies of TV shows and infomercials, scatological gags and bits of raunchy childishness – the show’s naughty claim to fame seems to be attracting a surprising array of big-name talent to take part in their public-access-quality material.

Well, now the team has carried its suck-up gift to a dubious zenith (or perhaps nadir) with “Tim & Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie,” a clumsy feature film that surely exists solely through the misplaced generosity of Will Ferrell and his Funny or Die production company.

With Ferrell lending cameo support and bringing along his zany posse (Will Forte, John C. Reilly) and guests such as Zach Galifianakis and Jeff Goldblum, “Billion Dollar Movie” unfolds as a wildly uneven skit-based tale of Hollywood hustlers who get in way over their heads – a la Heidecker and Wareheim themselves.

Briefly, Tim and Eric sweet talk a billion-buck investment from a ruthless studio Godfather (Robert Loggia, chewing the scenery) and blow it all on show-biz amenities (tanning booths, personal assistants, spiritual gurus, pricy stylists) before they ever shoot a frame of film. Then, with the money gone, they’re desperate to raise cash to repay the bloodthirsty tycoon.
