This week, the oddest DVD to appear on release lists is:

“The Found Footage Festival: Vol. 5”

For most, VHS might be an obsolete media technology, but for Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher the old videotape format is a repository of pure, pop-cult gold. As self-proclaimed “champions of VHS,” they’ve hosted an impromptu, ongoing road show of highlights from VHS tapes they’ve mined from thrift stores and garage sales, and the latest weird and wild results are offered up in “The Found Footage Festival: Vol. 5,” due out on DVD Tuesday.

Providing snarky, goofy commentary – a la “MST3K” – as they roll out cunningly edited montages of clips from a dizzying array of arcane video subjects, Pickett and Prueher show an uncanny knack for locating the most bizarre and discomforting tidbits from the video scrapheap and spinning them into hilarious, if sometimes too glib, social humor.

A simple description of the show’s wide-ranging topics is enough to give you a hint of what you’re in for:
