Under the Radar DVD of the Week: 'On Strike for Christmas'
This week, the oddest DVD to appear on release lists is:
“On Strike for Christmas”
It’s September, so it must be time to start celebrating (and selling) Christmas. One early bit of ricky-ticky holiday tinsel arrives on DVD shelves Tuesday with the made-for-TV movie “On Strike for Christmas.”
This 2010 family comedy, based on a book by Sheila Roberts, seems like mere piecework for one-time hot director Robert Iscove, maker of 1999’s “She’s All That,” and the 2003 “American Idol” dud “From Justin to Kelly.” It’s anchored by another formerly hot actress, Daphne Zuniga, who has worked mainly in TV since her promising big-screen breakthrough in “Spaceballs,” Mel Brooks’ 1987 “Star Wars” spoof.
“On Strike for Christmas” features Zuniga as Joy Robertson, a supermom and hyper-efficient domestic diva whose busy husband (David Sutcliffe) and two nearly grown sons take her for granted.
