Under the Radar DVD of the Week: 'I Heart Monster Movies'
This week, the oddest DVD to appear on release lists is:
“I Heart Monster Movies”
Horror movie fans are a breed unto themselves. As film buffs, they’re among the most loyal, obsessive and eccentric, and the burgeoning subculture they inhabit is neatly essayed in the documentary “I Heart Monster Movies” (due out on DVD Tuesday).
Made on the fly (and a bake-sale budget) by director Tyler Benjamin (“The Walking Dead Girls”), the film presents a colorful array of horror movies fans and practitioners explaining “in their own words” the allure of ghoulish stories and bloody, scarifying special effects on the big screen.
The rogues gallery of film subjects ranges through serious academic film buffs, to costumed convention attendees and includes horror them bands, pin-up models, haunted house operators and tricked-out hearse owners.
