What do Tim Gunn and model Veronica Webb really have to say about Abercrombie & Fitch, fashion mistakes, must-haves for fall, favorite budget retailers and polishing up politicians?
The two have been doing conference calls with the media to discuss their new makeover show, “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style,” which premieres Sept.6 on Bravo. Let’s just say it’s easy to get off the subject when you’re talking to fashion journalists.
So, here goes:
“And for me, it’s the bare midriff,” Tim said. “I just don’t believe in showing skin that people don’t need to see. I find it’s as unattractive on a 16-year-old girl as it is on a 60-year-old woman.”
Must-have piece for fall: ” … something in patent leather, especially if it’s in a jewel tone,” Veronica said. “If you’re looking to update your wardrobe with one piece, you invest in an accessory, something that’s fairly classic but in a new material.”
Tim: “I’d say here here to that answer.”
Veronica: “I think everybody needs boots, jeans and sweaters for fall. I would take my money over to Target or H&M and get some dark wash, wide-leg jeans, a sweater in a jewel tone with a scoop neck and longer short sleeves and a little pair of platform boots.”
Fashion trend they never want to see come back: “For me, it’s my job to get excited about clothes so no matter what they are I find a way to interpret them and make them not only relevant but beautiful,” Veronica said.
Tim: ”But, Veronica, can I ask you this question – could you make a pair of Crocs beautiful?”
Favorite budget retailers: “I adore H&M, but it’s very hard to get if you don’t travel to a big city,” Veronica said. “I think you can do amazingly well at Target with their guest designers and with what Isaac Mizrahi makes.”
Someone in the public they would like to make over: “A presidential candidate who’s disappointing me is Hillary Clinton,” Tim said. “I wish that the fashion trajectory that I thought she was beginning as First Lady, I wish that that had continued. … I just find her uniform to be, forgive me, kind of a crashing bore.”
