DALLAS — Max Azria received the Fashion Excellence Award for his Herve Leger collection Saturday evening during the Dallas Fashion Awards gala.

Azria moved to the United States in 1981 after 11 years of designing a women’s wear line in his native Paris.  In 1989 he opened his own design house, BCBG Max Azria. Today, the BCBG Max Azria Group has 22 brands, including Herve Leger, which Azria bought 10 years ago.

He relaunched the label in 2007 and kept the signature “bandage dresses,” which have been a hit with can’t-pinch-an-inch young celebrities. These figure-hugging dresses are comprised of stretchy strips covering the body, thus the name. The Herve Leger spring ’09 fashion show was also presented on the runway.

Azria said reviving the Herve Lager label had been a rewarding challenge. “I look forward to making women feel empowered and beautiful.”
