Up close with Elvis Presley artifacts
Elvis was in the building … at least some of his stuff was.
And I wasn’t the only one impressed. Co-workers gathered round to gaze closely at the half-dollar size TCB diamond ring, the crystal-encrusted cape, a cross necklace, black suede shoes and other personal items.
Angie Marchese, director of archives for Graceland in Memphis, Tenn., brought the memorabilia to The Oklahoman recently. She was on a media tour to tout three new exhibits at Graceland in celebration of what would be Elvis’ 75th birthday.
I’ve been to Graceland twice, and while it’s impressive, nothing beats being able to see his shoes or that gigantic ring up close. Even non-fans would be awestuck.
What made it even better was Marchese. She knows Elvis. She started at Graceland as a tour director when she was 17. With Elvis gone, she says it’s her goal to tell help tell the stories of the thousands of pieces of memorabilia at Graceland.
I wrote about the Elvis exhibits in Sunday’s Life section. Be sure to watch the accompanying video.
Many of the artifacts in these exhibits have never been on view before. So, if you’ve been thinking about a trip to Graceland or have never been before, this would be a good year to visit.
