Ashlee Simpson is taking a break from music and will focus on being a television actress.

Simpson has been cast in the the new “Melrose Place” television show on the CW network.

She released a press statement that said “I’m thrilled to be joining the cast of Melrose Place and I look forward to being a part of its new program of residents.”

The original series ran during the 1990s and starred Heather Locklear, Grant Show and Courtney Thorne-Smith.

I know the new “90210″ remake has been a success, but I think when producer remake popular shows, they run the risk repeating storylines from the original show.

Remember after the original “Saved by the Bell” went off the air, and they  created several remakes of the show?  The scripts and storylines nearly duplicated the original show, and it started being very corny after a while.

While we’re on the subject, I wonder if anyone will ever do a remake of “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” “Cosby Show,” “Friends,” “Seinfield” or “Family Matters.”
