Candy Dulaney  put the finishing touches on Easter egg ornaments to add to the 50 she has already made to decorate the tree branches set in vases in her dining room. There are colorful rabbits, carrots, chickens, flowers, a cross and a child’s chair and footstool covered with bunnies, all created stitch by stitch.

She began her hobby of needlepointing when she was eight years old. “My aunt, Elizabeth Beavers, now 90, needed help with her dining room chairs, so I helped her. We used one stitch at that time, the Continental stitch,” she said. Since then she has added novelty stitches in French knots, turkey work, spirals, lace, cast ons, chain stitches, along with ribbons and beads, to create a houseful of special works of art in needlework. “Embellishments make needlepoint come to life, “ she said. She has used feathers, beads and ribbons to add to her canvases and the fabric she has chosen for backing her pillows is exquisite.
