Two more cast in "Legally Mad," Kristin Chenoweth's TV comeback

Charity Wakefield as Marianne Dashwood in the BBC’s latest adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Sense and Sensibility.”

TV writer/producer David E. Kelley, the mastermind behind shows such as “Ally McBeal,” “Boston Legal” and “Picket Fences,” has added two more to his new project, “Legally Mad.”

Broken Arrow native Kristin Chenoweth already has been cast in his quirky new legal drama (those have been Kelley’s bread and butter for years) for NBC. Chenoweth, a screen and stage star, was last on TV in the quirky “Pushing Daisies,” which was recently canceled.

In “Legally Mad,” the Tony Award winner is set to play a character with the unlikely name of Skippy Pylon, a brillant attorney with some issues, including a nonstop cheerful attitude and occasional bouts of psychosis.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kelley has cast 27-year-old English actress Charity Wakefield for the lead female role in “Legally Mad.”

The trade publication draws a parallel between his casting of Wakefield - best known, at least to U.K. audiences, for playing Marianne Dashwood in last year’s BBC adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Sense and Sensibility” – and that of Calista Flockhart, whom Kelley made a household name in the 1990s when he tapped her to play the lead in “Ally McBeal.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Seda, whose credits include “Homicide: Life on the Street,” “Kevin Hill” and “Close to Home,” also has been cast in project.

“Legally Mad” will follow Brady Hamm (Wakefield), a disarmingly charming twentysomething woman who takes a job out of law school with her father’s firm rather than accepting a prestigious clerkship.
