Oklahoma tornadoes: Some houses in Dale neighborhood reduced to 'splinters'

Family says large portion of neighborhood appears destroyed.

Residents in a mobile home park here said their homes were destroyed during a tornado Sunday evening.

Resident Amber Ash lives in Steelman Estates, which she described as a mix of mobile homes and brick houses.


Ash said she lived in a mobile home which was next door to her parents.

As the storm approached from the west, the family left their homes and hid in a community storm cellar. They had to leave two dogs and a cat in the mobile home.

When they emerged, both homes were gone.

“They're gone. There's nothing but splinters,” Amber Ash's mother, Sybil Ash, said.

The Ash family said the Steelman Estates is a community of 85 homes. It appears a large portion of the community was destroyed, they said.

Amber Ash said they lost a dog and a cat in the storm; their English bulldog was found alive.

Members of the military were dispatched to the neighborhood to hand out snacks to residents.
