Miranda Lambert, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood and more earn CMT Music Award nominations
Country music stars Rascal Flatts, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire, Blake Shelton, Thompson Square and Toby Keith, who all have Oklahoma ties, will contend for fan-voted honors this summer at the CMT Music Awards.
The nominees for Country Music Television’s celebration of the year’s best music videos were announced today, with Jason Aldean earning a leading four nominations.
Power trio Rascal Flatts, which includes Picher-bred guitarist Joe Don Rooney, and Lambert, who lives in Tishomingo, each garnered three nods.
Rascal Flatts is nominated for the top award, video of the year, and group video of the year for “Why Wait.” The band also shares a nod with teen pop sensation Justin Bieber for collaborative video of the year for “That Should Be Me.”
Lambert, who has dominated the country awards shows in the past year, is nominated for video and female video of the year for “The House That Built Me,” which earlier this month was named the Academy of Country Music’s music video of the year. She also shares a nod with Sheryl Crow and Loretta Lynn for collaborative video for their rendition of Lynn’s signature song, “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”
Underwood, a Checotah native, is nominated video and female video for “Undo It.”
Shelton, Lambert’s fiancé and fellow Tishomingo resident, will compete in the male video field with “Who Are You When I’m Not Looking” and in the new best Web video of the year category with “Kiss My Country A- -.” The best new Web video contest will recognize the best video created primarily for Internet streaming.
