Country music superstar and Oklahoma native Vince Gill is among the 2013 nominees for the Songwriters Hall of Fame, reports the Associated Press.

The AP received the list of nominees in advance of the official announcement, set for Oct. 16. The gala takes place June 13 at the New York Marriott Marquis.

Along with Gill, the star-studded nominees for 2013 include Elvis Costello, B.B. King, Ray Davies, Jimmy Buffett, Steve Winwood, Bobby Womack, Jeff Lynne and Rod Temperton, who wrote Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” ”Rock With You” and “Off the Wall.”

Also among the nominees are Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie, former Eurythmics bandmates Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart, Aeromsith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry and Foreigner’s Lou Gramm and Mick Jones.

Nonperforming songwriters up for nomination include “Chain of Fools” songwriter Don Covay, country music songwriter Bobby Braddock and Holly Knight, who co-wrote Pat Benatar’s “Love Is a Battlefield” and Tina Turner’s “Better Be Good to Me.”

Linda Perry, the writer behind Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful,” is nominated alongside Bob McDill, Rick Nowels, Randy Goodrum, Tony Hatch and JD Souther. Writing duos Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter, and P.F. Sloan and Steve Barri will compete, too.

Eligible voters can select two nominees from the list of songwriter-performers and three nonperforming songwriters. Voting ends Dec. 17, according to the AP.

A 20-time Grammy Award winner, Gill, 55, was born in Norman and raised in Oklahoma City. The singer/songwriter/musician already is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Last month, he received the Academy of Country Music’s Career Achievement Award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“I’ve got the studio at the house and I’m probably at the height of creativity that I’ve ever been and more driven to be creative just because of my age and just realizing I don’t know how long my fingers will stay nimble and how long my voice with stay strong and all that. You know, if I have a brain, if it’s able to make up songs,” Gill said, laughing good-humoredly during a phone interview last month from his home in Nashville, Tenn.

“So, I’m at the best place I’ve ever been.”
