Wednesday Video Spotlight: Wanda Jackson performs "Tore Down" on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno"

by Brandy McDonnell Published: November 21, 2012

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Wanda Jackson tore it up as musical guest on Tuesday’s episode of “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” The full episode is embedded below; the performance is in the last segment.

Fresh off a tour of Austria and Germany, the Maud native and Oklahoma City resident belted out “Tore Down,” the raucous first single from her 31st studio album, “Unfinished Business,” which was released last month. Acclaimed alt-country singer/songwriter/producer Justin Townes Earle produced the album.

“Justin is a new and up-and-coming country singer for the most part … and that’s where his heart is. So, he wanted to see me scale down the band and pull me out front a lot more and just let the main part of the song, the interesting part of the song, be my performance,” Jackson told me in a recent interview. “He chose some very good, outstanding musicians. They came in the studio and I was in studio with them, so that’s always nice to have the live music right there that you can sing to rather than have the pre-recordings.”

Her all-star band for the performance featured Shooter Jennings, Neal Casal (Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, Chris Robinson Brotherhood), Rami Jaffee (The Wallflowers), Jonathan Wilson and Ted Russell Kamp.

All hail the Queen of Rockabilly!
