Country music legend Willie Nelson celebrated his 80th birthday today, and he did it in extremely Willie Nelson fashion.
The singer-songwriter made a trippy video for “Conan” in which he mischievously auditions for “Lord of the Rings” director Peter Jackson to cast him as Gandalf in the next “Hobbit” movie instead of Ian McKellen. (Watch for language and, um, suspicious smoke in this video.)
The “Red Headed Stranger” also volunteers to take McKellen’s place as Magneto.
Although most Internet sources list Nelson’s birthdate as April 30, his publicist, Elaine Schock, assured me in an email that Willie claims April 29 as his birthday. He told her he knows it’s April 29 since he was there.
Sounds just like something Willie would say, doesn’t it?
