Why Bangladesh?

I never thought I’d visit Bangladesh. It was never on my radar of places to visit. I received the opportunity through an email from Dean of Gaylord School of Journalism and Mass Communication at University of Oklahoma, Joe Foote. He was organizing exchange with a group of media professionals from both Bangladesh and Oklahoma to learn about the media within the two countries in television, radio, and print. The goal is to establish and foster long-term relationships with Bangladeshi counterparts well as learn about the culture through trips to museums and and historical sites. My colleagues include Vance Harrison, president of the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters; Ed Kelley, former editor of The Oklahoman and Washington Times; Gan Matthews, former reporter for KWTV; Brent Weber, former anchor for KOKH; Brent Wheelbarger, owner of Trifecta Communications; and Elanie Steyn, professor at University of Oklahoma.

Today we’re headed to RTV and ABC Radio. The agenda for the rest of the week also includes visit the U.S. Ambassador, the University of Dhaka, BRAC University, ICE Business Times, LOTS of dinners, and of course some shopping!

I’m so grateful for this opportunity. More blogging to come on fashion and food. It’s a big deal here.
