Muskogee’s The Swon Brothers moved one step closer to becoming “The Voice” during tonight’s live eliminations episode of the hit reality TV show.
Zach and Colton Swon received enough votes from the public to advance to the Top 6 on the NBC singing contest. In addition, 16-year-old Danielle Bradbery and Baylor University student Holly Tucker also moved on to the Top 6, marking the third week in a row that all three finalists from Oklahoma country music superstar Blake Shelton’s team advanced to the next round.
The first duo to make it into the live playoffs on “The Voice,” the Swons reacted in their usual effusive fashion as they became the fourth “safe” contestant announced tonight. While Colton Swon pumped his fist and high-fived fans in the crowd, Zach Swon went down the line hugging all the other contestants on the stage.
In perhaps one of the biggest shocks of Season 4, the late Michael Jackson’s former duet partner Judith Hill, who had been a favorite all season, was eliminated from the competition tonight. It was a particularly difficult night for Adam Levine’s team, as two of his contenders – Hill and Sarah Simmons – were sent home.
Throughout the show, “The Voice” host Carson Daly reminded viewers about Wednesday night’s “Healing in the Heartland: Relief Benefit Concert” airing live at 8 p.m. Wednesday on NBC.
Shelton organized and is headlining the star-studded concert, set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Chesapeake Energy Arena, in the wake of last week’s devastating and deadly Oklahoma tornadoes.
The concert also will feature fellow “The Voice” coach Usher; Shelton’s wife Miranda Lambert; fellow Oklahoma natives Vince Gill and Reba McEntire; country trio Rascal Flatts, which includes Picher-bred guitarist Joe Don Rooney; Tulsa native Ryan Tedder of pop-rock band OneRepublic; and country stars Luke Bryan and Darius Rucker.
The event will raise funds for the United Way of Central Oklahoma May Tornadoes Relief Fund. Working with their local community partners, United Way of Central Oklahoma will use the Fund for immediate, intermediate and long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts in Oklahoma following the tornadoes that devastated Moore on May 20.
As previously reported, additional tickets for the sold-out show will be released at 10 a.m. Wednesday. For more information on the show, go to www.chesapeakearena.com.
